Broadcast Critique

Watching the news was a lot more different for me than it has ever been considering it has been a while since I last watched it. I think I felt that way because since I have been at Liberty, I have not had the time to sit and watch the news. Being in college really puts you in a bubble that can keep you unaware of what is happening in the real world. This made me view the news in a whole different way.
I watched channel 7’s (CBS) broadcast and was intrigued right away by the quality of the broadcast. The episode began by addressing the riots that are taking place in Baltimore. I think this was the best way possible to start out considering it is such a big deal and everyone is wondering what is happening in Baltimore during this tragic time.
The episode continued on with the national news by addressing the earthquake that occurred in Nepal. I thought that this information was needed considering it is hard for a lot of us to grasp what is happening on the other side of the world here in Virginia. The station did an interview with an immigrant from Nepal to make the story more personal.
This broadcast proceeded to inform viewers on matters of the local level, starting with the weather. I thought the weather was done very well. The visuals were very easy to understand and the weather was covered for this whole area of Virginia. More small, local issues and stories were discussed and they were very well done.
Overall, the audio and visuals were very good in my opinion. At times I thought that there was a little too much happening on the screen and too many effects, but for the most part there was not too much to where I could not pay attention to what was happening.
I also thought that the timeliness was very good as well. All of the topics discussed were very up to date and relevant to what is happening locally and globally.
The information that was presented in this broadcast was great in my opinion. I thought that this station kept an unbiased view and most everything was covered for each story.

Channel 7’s broadcast was overall as good broadcast and I would most certainly watch this channel’s news again. Watching the news can really open one’s eyes to what is happening around them.
